Stone
This is a piece of Wyoming Emerald Snowflake Jade which was a real pleasure to carve. Its rich, dark emerald green colour gives a perfect backdrop to the light green cotton flakes of snow, that are trickling down to the bottom of the letter S.
Design
Another graffiti inspired design. It adds a soft and at the same time dramatic flow to the piece, putting it in the context of urban street art in an unexpected connection. The allover balancing was an interesting task on this one, so that when it hangs on a string it wouldn’t drop over to the side.
Inspiration
In a swung style, this letter S defies the laws of gravity: shouldn’t its big belly pull it down? But instead it is standing up against all odds, proud and head up. Its graceful curves look like they were painted in a single quick move with the spraypaint on the wall, but in 3D. What does the S stand for? I don’t know, I was just revealing what was already there. But when you find out what it means to you, let me know, I’m curious.
