Stone
The Stone of the pendant is a light apple green to light silverish brown fading British Columbian Nephrite. It’s an awesome stone with a very individual character that is translucent to transparent, holding beautiful edges despite its thinness.
The base is a pebble of NZ Serpentine that I found on the beach.
Design
A shark pendant that is lightweight around the neck and when not worn rests under the lip of a breaking wave, which normally isn’t a calm moment at all. Here this moment is preserved as a standing, eternal glimpse.
Inspiration
This item is part of a series of sharks that I made in one particular period of my work. It is inspired by the natural world under water. I once had an encounter with a shark in the “real world”, I actually caught one. Alright, it was just a very small Inshore Shark or Spiny Dogfish of not even a meter size. Nevertheless it was an impressive and surprisingly strong animal that I then had to fix on the ground to get rid of the hook and throw it back into the sea alive because those fish aren’t good to eat. Good for them, I’m not a fisherman at all and truth is, it was the first time I caught a fish in my whole life.
