Stone
The Argillite is perfectly clean and black. The Jade is very translucent and shows different shadings of apple green on the fins and body to a lighter grey-green or brownish green on its tail fin. Not the easiest to carve, but the outcome was rewarding. The two stones perfectly align with each other and have been glued together from head to tail in an elaborate way, so that they will never part again.
Design
The Shark in this design has been abstracted to some of his characteristic attributes: the flowing movement, the fins, the gills. He has no teeth though and doesn’t bite.
Inspiration
Connecting worlds as a guardian spirit, he swims in every ocean between the continents and could turn up showing his fin on the waterline pretty much everywhere in the world. Everybody fears the Great White Shark. This one here is black though, it’s not a bloodthirsty monster but a shining star bringing light to the darkness. His black body camouflages him in front of dark backgrounds: the darker the background the brighter the fins shine. Usually, when you see the underside of a shark it’s not a good sign but the Black Shark with his green glowing belly, when he is floating above you, that means you’re blessed with the spirit of Pounamu.
