Stone
The little stone’s true origin is unknown to me, nor do I exactly remember where I got it from. I found it between various other pieces in my stash but couldn’t locate it exactly. It must be Siberian or British Columbian Nephrite. In any case it’s a beautiful, fine quality piece of pristine stone, has been a very rewarding work and has of course been added to the gallery of fine art.
Design
A soft twist made from a hard stone. It is a simple yet intricate design on a stone not bigger than a fingertip. Contrasting elements appear hard and soft, edgy and round, straight and bent, all at the same time.
Inspiration
Although it is small, it is a greenstone (Māori saying)
The figure eight and the spiral are both closely associated with concepts of infinity, the creation of the universe and life. The symbols that stand in this context are widely accepted throughout the world, even in sciences. It is one of our main and most universal symbols that we have. If you look at it that way you can see a DNA strand in it, the basic principle of life, the missing link, the little building block that is almost invisible but indispensable for the construction of the huge.
